A digitally signed form does not display the digital signature in InfoPath 2003

Problem description

When you open a digitally signed form in Microsoft Office InfoPath 2003, you see the following error message where the digital signature should be:
There is a problem with this signature.
You cannot determine who digitally signed the form unless you click View details. If you click View details, you will see the name of the person who digitally signed the form. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
This digital signature has expired.

Steps to solve this problem

To fix this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Apply the InfoPath 2003 post-Service Pack 3 hotfix package: December 17, 2007.

    How to obtain the hotfix

    This issue is fixed in the InfoPath 2003 post-Service Pack 3 Hotfix Package that was released on December 17, 2007. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

  2. Enable the hotfix.

    To have us enable the hotfix for you, go to the "Fix it for me" section. To enable the hotfix yourself, go to the "Let me fix it myself" section.

    Fix it for me

    To enable the hotfix automatically, click the Fix it button or link. Click Run in the File Download dialog box, and then follow the steps in the Fix it wizard.

    To enable this hotfix, follow these steps:
    1. Exit InfoPath.
    2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    3. Click the following registry key:
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\11.0\InfoPath\Security
    4. After you click the key that is specified in step 3, point to New on the Edit menu, and then click DWORD Value.
    5. Type AllowExpiredCertOnXmlValidate, and then press ENTER.
    6. Right-click AllowExpiredCertOnXmlValidate, and then click Modify.
    7. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
    8. On the File menu, click Exit to exit Registry Editor.
