Symptoms

Microsoft Office Excel 2007, Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007, or Microsoft Office Word 2007 may crash when you perform any of the following actions:
  • Click any Office Online category
  • Click the Installed Templates category
  • Search for templates

Cause

This issue occurs because the "Disable customer-submitted templates downloads from Office Online" policy setting is enabled. Therefore, the customer-submitted templates gallery is never created.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the 2007 Microsoft Office suite Service Pack 2 (SP2). For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Workaround

To work around this issue, disable the "Disable customer-submitted templates downloads from Office Online" policy setting. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type gpedit.msc, and then click OK.
  2. Expand User Configuration, expand Administrative Templates, expand Microsoft Office 2007 system, and then click Tools | Options | General | Web Options.
  3. Double-click the Disable customer-submitted templates downloads from Office Online policy setting, click Not Configured, and then click OK.
  4. Click Start, click Run, type gpupdate /force, and then click OK.
