Introduction

Issues that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • You exit Excel 2007 when you have a modified workbook open. When you do this, you click Yes to save the workbook. Then, you save the workbook in the Excel Macro-Enabled Template (.xltm) file format. When you try to reopen the workbook, you cannot open it. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
Excel cannot open the file filename.xltm because the format or file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file.
This problem does not occur if you save the workbook in the .xltm file format before you exit Excel 2007.
  • You use Microsoft Excel 2000 or Microsoft Office Excel 2003 to create a workbook. In the workbook, you create a grouped shape and then assign a macro to it. When you open the workbook in Excel 2007, you cannot run the macro because the pointer does not change to a hand pointer.
  • You create a PivotTable in Excel 2007. You save the workbook as file_name.xls or as file_name.xlsx. When you open the workbook in Excel 2003, the PivotTable does not function correctly.
  • The computer stops responding when you try to open an Excel 2007 workbook that contains an array of index formulas that reference an external file.
  • You use Excel 2007 or Excel 2003 to create a workbook that has a chart. Keeping the chart active, you open Visual Basic Application (VBA) and then run the ? activechart.chartarea.left and ? activechart.chartarea.top commands to find the position of the chart in the active window. When you run the commands, you receive a result of 4. However, if you move the chart in the workbook and then run the VBA commands again, you still receive a result of 4, regardless of the position of the chart.
  • You insert an Excel worksheet as an embedded object (OLE) in another Microsoft Office program such as Microsoft Office Word. When you add comments in the Excel worksheet, the comments in the OLE objects disappear when you open or edit the objects in Excel 2007. This problem occurs for one of the following reasons:
    • You convert an Excel 2007 object to an Excel 2003 object.
    • You use the Paste Special command to paste an object as an embedded object.
    • You open and then edit the embedded object several times.
  • When you try to copy and then paste an Excel 2007 chart from a template to Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007, the Excel Chart (entire workbook) command is unavailable.
