Symptoms

When Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 receives an e-mail message that does not specify character set information, the text of the e-mail message may be corrupted.

Cause

This problem may occur because Exchange 2007 does not detect the character set in which the e-mail message is encoded.

The message is decoded by using the character set that is specified in the remote domain settings. If the character set in which the message text is encoded differs from the character set that is specified in the remote domain settings, the message text is corrupted.
