To enable the hotfix that is described in this article, you must create a registry key to lock the axis units when you convert an Excel 2003 chart to Excel 2007. To create this registry key, follow these steps.

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Locate the following registry key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common\Charting
  3. Right-click the registry key that you located in step 2, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  4. Type LockScaleValuesWhenConvert2003, and then press ENTER.
  5. Right-click LockScaleValuesWhenConvert2003, and then click Modify.
  6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  7. Exit Registry Editor.
