There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

Cause

This issue occurs if you install the Exchange Best Practices Analyzer 2.7 or an earlier version of the Exchange Best Practices Analyzer. The Exchange Best Practices Analyzer 2.7 and earlier versions of the Exchange Best Practices Analyzer are incompatible with Windows Vista.

Install the Exchange Best Practices Analyzer 2.8 or a later version of the Exchange Best Practices Analyzer. To obtain Exchange Best Practices Analyzer 2.8, visit the following Microsoft Web site: Note Before you install the tool, the computer must meet the following requirements:
  • The Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 must be installed. To download the .NET Framework 1.1 and the latest service pack for the .NET Framework 1.1, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
  • The Internet Information Services (IIS) Common HTTP Features component must be enabled. To enable this component, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start
      , type Programs and Features in the Start Search box, and then click Programs and Features in the Programs list.
    2. Under Tasks, click Turn Windows features on or off.

      If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
    3. Expand Internet Information Services, and then expand World Wide Web Services.
    4. Click to select the Common Http Features check box, and then click OK.

When you use the Exchange Best Practices Analyzer, run the tool as an administrator. You can configure the Exchange Best Practices Analyzer to run as an administrator every time that you use the tool. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start
    , type Best Practices Analyzer Tool in the Start Search box, right-click Best Practices Analyzer Tool in the Programs list, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the Compatibility tab, and then click to select the Run this program as an administrator check box under Privilege Level.
If you do not run the tool as an administrator, updates are not successfully downloaded to the computer.
