Symptoms

You try to upgrade the system BIOS by using the ThinkPad BIOS update utility on a Windows Vista-based Lenovo Thinkpad T60 portable computer or on a Windows Vista-based Lenovo Thinkpad T60p portable computer. However, the ThinkPad BIOS update utility stops responding.

Cause

This problem occurs because the Lenovo ThinkPad BIOS update utility that is dated December 12, 2006 or earlier is incompatible with Windows Vista.

Workaround

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Download the bootable ISO image of the Lenovo Thinkpad BIOS update.
  2. Burn the image to a CD_ROM by using CDBurn.exe.
  3. Insert the CD-ROM.
  4. Restart the computer.
  5. Follow the instructions to update the BIOS.

When you update the BIOS on a Windows Vista-based Lenovo Thinkpad T60 portable computer or on a Windows Vista-based Lenovo Thinkpad T60p portable computer, the sound may work incorrectly. In this case, you may have to remove, and then reinstall, the audio driver. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click StartStart button , right-click Computer, and then click Manage.

    User Account Control permission If you are prompted for an administrator, type the password. If you are prompted for confirmation, click Continue.
  2. In Computer Management, click Device Manager.
  3. Expand Sound, video, and game controllers, right-click the audio device, and then click Uninstall.
  4. In the confirmation dialog box, click OK.
  5. Right-click ComputerName, and then click Scan for hardware changes to reinstall the audio device drivers.

    Note ComputerName represents the name of the computer.
