Symptoms

When you open a workbook that contains a chart in Microsoft Office Excel 2007, you may experience the following symptoms:
  • The plot area of the chart may be resized, or it may be shifted slightly to the right part of the chart.
  • The legend may be moved to the right part of the chart.
  • The top part of the plot area may be reduced.

Cause

This behavior may occur if the following conditions are true:
  • The workbook is saved in the Excel 97-2003 Workbook (*.xls) file format.
  • The workbook is saved when the zoom setting is changed to a setting other than 100 percent.
  • The workbook is alternately saved as an Excel 2007 workbook both in Excel 2007 and in an earlier version of Excel.

Workaround

To work around this behavior, save the workbook in the Excel Workbook (*.xlsx) file format. Then, use the .xlsx file when it must be opened and saved in both versions of Excel.

To save the workbook in the Excel Workbook (*.xlsx) file format in Excel 2007, follow these steps:
  1. Open the workbook.
  2. Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Save As.
  3. In the Save As dialog box, click Excel Workbook (*.xlsx) in the Save as type box, name the file, and then click Save.
