Symptoms

In Microsoft Office Excel 2007, when you change the line style width of a data series in a chart, the border width of the data series may be wider than expected. Additionally, the data series border may overlap another data series border more in Excel 2007 than in an earlier version of Microsoft Excel.

Cause

This behavior may occur if the data series shares the border space with an adjoining data series. This behavior may occur in a column-type or bar-type chart.

Workaround

To work around this behavior, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Use a smaller line style width

To change the line style width for the data series, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click the data series, and then click Format Data Series.
  2. Click Line Style.
  3. In the Width box, enter a smaller point size, and then click Close.

Method 2: Reset the data series

To reset the data series, right-click the data series in the Excel 2007 chart, and then click Reset to Match Style. When you do this, the line style width and other data series settings will be reset to the chart style default settings.
