Note The white space in a SmartArt graphic is the empty area between the shapes and the frame.

Workaround

To work around this behavior, change the height or the width of the SmartArt graphic as appropriate. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click the SmartArt graphic frame.

Note The frame contains the shapes of the SmartArt graphic. Make sure that only the frame is selected.
  2. Under SmartArt Tools, click the Format tab.
  3. In the Size group, change the value in the Height box or in the Width box as appropriate. For example, to reduce the white space between the top of the shape and the frame, reduce the value in the Height box.

    Notes
    • In Microsoft Office Excel 2007 and in Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007, you must click Size in the Size group to view the Height box and the Width box.
    • If you reduce the value in the Height box or in the Width too much, the size of the individual shapes and of the text in the SmartArt graphic may be changed.
