Circular reference arrows are drawn in the wrong cells of a worksheet in Excel 2007

Symptoms

In Microsoft Office Excel 2007, when you recalculate a worksheet that contains circular references, the circular reference arrows are drawn in the wrong cells of the worksheet.

Note To recalculate the current worksheet in Excel 2007, press F9.

Cause

This issue occurs when one of the following conditions is true:
  • You are running Excel 2007 on a multiprocessor computer.
  • You are running several instances of Excel 2007 at the same time.

Workaround

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods:
  • Run the recalculation on a single-processor computer. If you are running Excel 2007 on a multiprocessor computer, follow these steps:
    1. On the Microsoft Office Button, click Excel Options.
    2. Click Advanced.
    3. In the Formulas section under Advanced options for working with Excel, click Manual, and then change the number of processors to 1.
  • Exit all other instances of Excel 2007.
