Meeting acceptance messages from users in an external domain are not delivered in Exchange 2000 Server

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario. A user in a Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server organization sends a meeting request to users in an external domain. The users in the external domain accept the meeting request. In this scenario, the meeting acceptance messages are not delivered. And, the users in the external domain receive non-delivery reports (NDR). The meeting acceptance messages are queued in the local delivery queue. Additionally, the following event may be logged in the Application log:

Event ID: 327
Event Type: Warning
Source: MSExchangeTransport
Category: Exchange Store Driver
Description: The following call : EcSetFileHandleProp to the store failed. Error code : -2147417836. MDB : xxxx. FID : . MID : . File : xx.EML.

Note An event ID 327 message that includes error code -2147418113 may also be logged

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

Prerequisites

You must install Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 3 (SP3) and the August 2004 Exchange 2000 Server post-Service Pack 3 update rollup before you install the hotfix.
