You cannot set the print area and the print titles when you view a print preview of a worksheet in Excel

Symptoms

When you view a print preview of a Microsoft Excel worksheet, the following print options are unavailable (appear dimmed) on the Sheet tab of the Page Setup dialog box:
  • Print area
  • Rows to repeat at top
  • Columns to repeat at left
Additionally, the Set Print Area command on the File menu may be unavailable when multiple worksheets are selected.

Workaround

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Close the print preview.
  2. Make sure that only one worksheet is selected. The print options that are unavailable in the print preview are also unavailable when you select multiple worksheets. To set these print options, you must select a single worksheet.   3. On the File menu, click Page Setup.
  4. Click the Sheet tab.
  5. Make sure that the print options that were unavailable in the print preview are now available. Then, configure the settings that you want.
