Symptoms

When you check for updates on the Microsoft Office Update Web site or on the Microsoft Update Web site, you are offered an update for Access 2002. This problem may occur when you do not have Microsoft Access 2002 installed on the computer.

Cause

This problem may occur because the update for Access 2002 contains the Mscdm.dll file. This file is also installed by Microsoft Excel 2002 and Microsoft FrontPage 2002.

If you do not have Access 2002 installed, but you do have Excel 2002 or FrontPage 2002 installed, you will be offered an update for Access 2002 when you check for updates. You will also be offered the update if you have a Microsoft Office XP edition that contains Excel 2002 or FrontPage 2002 installed.

Workaround

To work around this problem, do not install the update for Access 2002 if you do not have Access 2002 installed on the computer.
