Some Outlook Web Access users do not receive the password expiry warning message after you apply hotfix 816507

Symptoms

After you apply hotfix 816507, some users do not receive the expected password expiry warning message when they use Microsoft Outlook Web Access in a Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server organization.

This issue occurs when a user uses a double-byte character set (DBCS) language for the display name. For example, this issue occurs if the user uses Japanese kanji characters for the display name.

Note This issue occurs only when certain DBCS characters are used.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

More information

Before you apply hotfix 816507, no users who use DBCS characters for the display name receive the password expiry message. After you apply hotfix 816507, only those users who have certain DBCS characters in the display name experience this issue. Hotfix 896894 resolves the issue that is related to those DBCS characters.
