How to add the picture data view element to an existing data view from a data source that is on a server that is running Windows SharePoint Services by using SharePoint Designer 2007 or FrontPage 2003

Introduction

This article describes how use Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007 or Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 to add the picture data view element to an existing data view from a data source that is on a server that is running Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services.

To add a column and to set the column type to Picture, follow these steps:
1.Open the http://ServerName/sites/SiteName/Lists/Announcements/AllItems.aspx Web page in your Web browser.
2.Add a new column to the Announcements list. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Click Modify settings and columns.
b. Click Add a new column.
c. Type a name for the column.
d. Click Hyperlink or Picture for the column type.
e. Click Picture for the URL format.
f. Click OK.
3.Click Go back to "Announcements".
4.Click New Item.
5.Type the URL for a picture in the Type a Web address box for the picture column element. Type an optional description in the Type a description box.
6.Click Save and close.
7.Exit your Web browser.
8.Add the picture data view. To do this, follow these steps, as appropriate for the program that you are running.

SharePoint Designer 2007

a. Open your Windows SharePoint Services site in SharePoint Designer 2007.
b. Create a new .aspx page in SharePoint Designer 2007.
c. On the Data menu, click Insert Data View.
d. In the Data source list, right-click the Announcements list, and then click Show Data.
e. In the Row list, click Title, press and hold CTRL, click PictureColumnName, release CTRL, and then click Insert Selected Field as.
f. On the File menu, click Save All.
g. Exit SharePoint Designer 2007.

FrontPage 2003

a. Open your Windows SharePoint Services site in FrontPage 2003.
b. Create a new .aspx page in FrontPage 2003.
c. On the Data menu, click Insert Data View.
d. In the Select a data source list, right-click the Announcements list, and then click Show Data.
e. In the Row list, click Title, press and hold CTRL, click PictureColumnName, release CTRL, and then click Insert Data View. You should now see the image.
f. Save the Windows SharePoint Services site.
g. Exit FrontPage 2003.
