Symptoms

When you try to open a local intranet site in Microsoft Expression Web, Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007, or Microsoft FrontPage, you may be prompted for a user name and for a password.

Cause

This problem occurs if your intranet site name contains periods, such as "http://Site_Name.Extension." To store passwords, Expression Web, SharePoint Designer 2007, and FrontPage use the Internet and Security settings in Microsoft Internet Explorer. Because of this, these programs interpret an intranet site name in this format as an Internet Zone site. Therefore, these programs use your Internet Zone security settings when you open the intranet site.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, you must add the intranet site name to the Intranet Zone. Follow these steps:
  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  3. Click the Security tab.
  4. Click Local intranet.
  5. Click Sites and then click Advanced.
  6. Type the intranet Web address, click Add, and then click OK. Repeat this step if you have more than one intranet site that has periods in its name.
  7. Click OK two times.

  3. Click the Security tab.
  4. Click Internet.
