How to install an Exchange 2000 hotfix that contains the Cdo.dll file on a computer that is running only Exchange System Manager

Introduction

This article describes how to install a Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server hotfix that contains the Collaboration Data Objects (CDO) DLL (Cdo.dll). This article describes how to install such a hotfix on a computer that is running Exchange System Manager but not Exchange 2000 itself.

To install the hotfix, follow these steps:
  1. Copy the Cdo.dll file from your Exchange 2000 CD or from the hotfix to the following folder on your computer:
    Drive:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\Bin
    Note Drive represents the hard disk drive where you installed Exchange System Manager.
    • To obtain the Cdo.dll file from the CD, copy the file from the following folder:
      CD drive:\Setup\I386\Exchange\Bin
    • To obtain the Cdo.dll file from the hotfix, extract the files from the hotfix:
      1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
      2. Locate the folder where you saved the hotfix, and then note the name of the hotfix file.
      3. At the command prompt, type the following, and then press ENTER:
        hotfix file name /x
        Note hotfix file name represents the name of the hotfix file.
      4. Accept the default location, or type a location in the Choose Directory For Extracted Files box, and then click OK.
  2. Register the Cdo.dll file.
    1. Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 "drive:\program files\exchsrvr\bin\cdo.dll", and then click OK.

      Note drive represents the hard disk drive where you installed Exchange System Manager.
    2. When you receive the following message, click OK:
      DllRegisterServer in Drive:\program files\exchsrvr\bin\cdo.dll succeeded.
  3. Install the Exchange 2000 hotfix.
