Users cannot synchronize Outlook 2000 or Outlook 2002 offline folders with Exchange 2000 Server

Symptoms

When a user tries to synchronize Microsoft Outlook 2000 or Microsoft Outlook 2002 offline folders with Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, the offline folders do not synchronize.

Additionally, there is an e-mail message in the Deleted Items folder. The body of the e-mail message contains errors that are similar to the following errors:
16:05:22 Synchronizing Hierarchy
16:05:22 Terminated in error
16:05:22 [80070057-501-80070057-733]
16:05:22 The client operation failed.
16:05:22 Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store

Resolution

Hotfix information

You must apply the hotfix on Exchange 2000 Server.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, submit a request to Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.

Prerequisites

No prerequisites are required to install the hotfix.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply the hotfix. However, the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service and all dependent services will be restarted.

This hotfix does not replace any other hotfixes.
