Improvements that are included in the Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac Service Pack 1 (11.1.0)
The Office 2004 for Mac Service Pack 1 (11.1.0) provides the following improvements.
Improvements for Word 2004 for Mac
The Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac Service Pack 1 (11.1.0) includes the following improvements for Word 2004 for Mac:
- AutoRecover functions correctly when FileVault is enabled
Previously, setting the AutoRecover folder location to a location inside a FileVault-protected home folder did not work. This issue has been fixed. FileVault is an Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) with 128-bit keys that secures your home folder by automatically encrypting the contents. For more information about FileVault, see Apple Help.
- Security is improved when you open a document that has macros
Word 2004 for Mac, Excel 2004 for Mac, and PowerPoint 2004 for Mac now support an additional level of security that affects macros that open other Microsoft Office documents that contain macros. You can use the Application.AutomationSecurity property to set the level of security that you want.

How to use the Application.AutomationSecurity property in Office v.X and in Office 2004 for Mac
- Text changes to the font selected on the Font menu
If you use the Font menu to change a font, the font change does not take effect. This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:
- You are using a WYSIWYG font.
- The Style menus check box is not selected in Preferences.
- You use the Font menu to change the font.
This issue has been fixed. The text now changes to the font that you select in the Font menu.
- German proofing tools are correctly detected
Previously, the Compatibility Report in Word 2004 for Mac incorrectly reported that the Swiss German proofing tools are not installed.
This issue has been fixed. Text that is marked as Swiss German text is with the German proofing tools. By default, the German proofing tools are installed. The Compatibility Report no longer reports this issue.
- Text selection is improved
Previously, when you double-clicked a word and then dragged the selected word to include more words, Word 2004 for Mac sometimes selected the word that comes before the word that you selected. This issue has been fixed. Word 2004 for Mac no longer selects the word that comes before the word that you select.
Improvements for PowerPoint 2004 for Mac
The Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac Service Pack 1 (11.1.0) includes the following improvements for PowerPoint 2004 for Mac:
- Performance is improved when you play movies in a slide show
When you play a movie in a slide show, performance is improved, and movies play more smoothly.
- Compatibility with fonts is improved
Compatibility with fonts is improved, resulting in better overall appearance of fonts. Font compatibility includes Open Type fonts, symbol fonts, and fonts that are used in presentations that were created in other versions of PowerPoint for Mac.
- Dragging objects on a slide works as expected when the ruler is turned on
When you drag an object on your slide and the ruler is turned on, the object now remains in the position where you put it.
- Security is improved when you open a document that has macros
Word 2004 for Mac, Excel 2004 for Mac, and PowerPoint 2004 for Mac now support an additional level of security that affects macros that open other Office documents that contains macros. You can use the Application.AutomationSecurity property to set the level of security that you want.

Improvements for Entourage 2004 for Mac
The Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac Service Pack 1 (11.1.0) includes the following improvements for Entourage 2004 for Mac:
- The Entourage icon remains stationary when a connection error occurs
When a connection error occurs and an error log entry is generated, the Entourage icon will no longer bounce in the Dock.
- Sent e-mail messages display the Sent status in the Microsoft Outlook Info Bar
If you sent e-mail messages from Entourage 2004 for Mac, the e-mail messages did not appear as being sent in the Info Bar when you viewed them in Microsoft Outlook. This issue has been fixed. Now, when you send an e-mail message from Entourage 2004 for Mac, the Info Bar displays that the e-mail message was sent in Microsoft Outlook.
- Connection to the Internet by using an internal modem is improved
Previously, connecting to the Internet by using an internal modem could cause problems. Entourage 2004 for Mac tried to connect to another internal modem or to an Infrared Data Association (IrDA) wireless device after it made a Point-to-Point (PPP) connection to an external modem. This issue has been fixed. Entourage 2004 for Mac now connects to the Internet using the current connection.
- The SMTP using SSL connections is improved
Sending e-mail messages by using SSL connections sometimes caused problems. Sometimes, the e-mail message was not sent. This issue has been fixed.
- Pictures from iPhoto can be attached to an e-mail message
Attaching pictures from iPhoto to e-mail messages sometimes caused problems. Sometimes, a file with the file name Attachment (PlayerPro document).669 was attached instead. This issue has been fixed.
- Keyboard shortcuts in Adobe CS products are available when Entourage 2004 for Mac is running
Sometimes, keyboard shortcuts in Adobe CS products are not available when Entourage 2004 for Mac is running on your computer. This issue has been fixed. Keyboard shortcuts are now available in Adobe CS products when Entourage 2004 for Mac is running on your computer.
- Entourage 2004 for Mac can connect to Domino IMAP servers
Entourage 2004 for Mac could not connect to Domino IMAP servers that use double-backslash �\\� as a directory separator. This issue has been fixed.
- The SSL support for Microsoft Exchange delegate access is improved
Microsoft Entourage 2004 now lets Exchange delegate access over SSL.
- Connecting to a Post Office Protocol (POP) account is improved
Connection to a POP account with Entourage 2004 for Mac sometimes caused problems. In some cases, Entourage 2004 for Mac did not detect that the server had closed the connection. This issue has been fixed.
- Missing e-mail subfolders
Some users have reported missing subfolders and data at the root level of mailboxes. This issue has been fixed.
Improvements for Remote Desktop Connection Client 1.0.3 for Mac
The Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac Service Pack 1 (11.1.0) includes the following improvements for Remote Desktop Connection Client 1.0.3 for Mac:
- Improved stability
Provides improved stability when you minimize the client window, and when you copy and paste data from the client window to Macintosh programs. Stability is also improved for users of Mac OS X 10.3 and later, and when Remote Desktop Connection Client is used on Macintosh computers with PowerPC G5 processors.
