Symptoms

When you try to use the Mailbox Merge Wizard (ExMerge), the ExMerge process is not successful. The drive that holds the ExMerge log file becomes full. When the drive becomes full, the computer that is running ExMerge may stop responding. If you view the ExMerge log file, you see that the log is filled with entries that are similar to the following:
[Time] Trying to copy messages in folder '\Inbox\UserName', individually. To avoid duplicates in the target store, messages will be merged and not copied into the target store.
[Time] Error getting Contents Table.
Note By default, the ExMerge log file is named ExMerge.log. ExMerge creates the log file in the same folder as the ExMerge.exe file.

Cause

This problem may be caused by a code defect in versions of ExMerge for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server and for Exchange Server 2003 that are earlier than version 6.5.7232. The code defect may cause the ExMerge executable file to enter an infinite loop. While the program stuck in the loop, the program outputs several kilobytes (KB) of data per second to the ExMerge log file.
