Requirements to use ASP.NET in Expression Web, in SharePoint Designer 2007, and in FrontPage 2003

Introduction

This article discusses the items that you must have to use Microsoft Active Server Pages (ASP) technologies with Microsoft Expression Web, with Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007, and with Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003. Before you can view the results of the ASP features in these products, you must install the components that are listed in this article.

ASP.NET for use with Expression Web, with SharePoint Designer 2007, and with FrontPage 2003 is supported in Microsoft Windows 2000 (Professional, Server, and Advanced Server), Microsoft Windows XP Professional, and Microsoft Windows Server 2003.

Windows Server 2003

On a computer that is running Windows Server 2003, ASP.NET is installed as a role on the operating system. To do this, you must add ASP.NET as a new program and then enable it. To do this, use one of the following methods:
  • To use the Configure Your Server Wizard in Window Server 2003, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, and then click Manage Your Server.
    2. In the Manage Your Server window, click Add or remove a role.
    3. In the Configure Your Server Wizard, click Next.
    4. Click to select the Application server (IIS, ASP.NET) server role, and then click Next.
    5. Click to select the Enable ASP.NET check box, and then click Next.
    6. Click Next again.
    7. If prompted, insert your Windows Server 2003 CD in the CD drive, and then click Next.
    8. When the installation is complete, click Finish.
  • To use the Add or Remove Programs dialog box in Windows Server 2003, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, point to Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
    2. In the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, click Add/Remove Windows Components.
    3. In the Windows Components Wizard, click to select the Application Server check box in the Components box, and then click Details.
    4. Click to clear the check boxes for the subcomponents of Application Server that are not necessary for your environment, click OK, and then click Next.
    5. If you are prompted, insert your Windows Server 2003 CD in the CD drive or in the DVD drive, and then click Next.
    6. When the Windows Components Wizard has completed configuring Windows Server 2003, click Finish.
  • To enable ASP.NET in Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager in Windows Server 2003, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type inetmgr, and then click OK.
    2. In IIS Manager, expand the local computer, and then click Web Service Extensions.
    3. In the right pane, right-click ASP.NET, and then click Allow. The status of ASP.NET changes to Allowed.

Windows XP or Windows 2000 Server

On a computer that is running Windows XP or Windows 2000 Server, ASP.NET is installed with the .NET Framework. To download and install ASP.NET on a computer that is running Windows XP Professional or Windows 2000 Server, follow these steps:
  1. If you have to, install and start IIS.
    • To install IIS in Windows XP, follow these steps:
      1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
      2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
      3. In the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, click Add/Remove Windows Components.
      4. In the Windows Components Wizard, click to select the Internet Information Services (IIS) check box in the Components box, and then click Details.
      5. Click to clear the check boxes for the subcomponents of IIS that are not necessary for your environment, click OK, and then click Next.
      6. If you are prompted, insert your Windows XP CD in the CD drive or in the DVD drive, and then click Next.
      7. When the Windows Components Wizard has completed configuring Windows XP, click Finish.
    • To install IIS in Windows 2000, follow these steps:
      1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
      2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
      3. In the Add/Remove Programs dialog box, click Add/Remove Windows Components.
      4. In the Windows Components Wizard, click to select the Internet Information Services (IIS) check box in the Components box, and then click Details.
      5. Click to clear the check boxes for the subcomponents of IIS that are not necessary for your environment, click OK, and then click Next.
      6. If you are prompted, insert your Windows 2000 CD in the CD drive or in the DVD drive, and then click Next.
      7. When the Windows Components Wizard has completed configuring Windows 2000, click Finish.
  2. Update to the most recent version of the .NET Framework. To do this, follow these steps, as appropriate for the product that you are running.

    Expression Web and SharePoint Designer 2007

    1. Visit the following Microsoft Web site:
    2. Follow the installation instructions for the version of the .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package that is appropriate for the type of computer that you are using.

    FrontPage 2003

    1. Visit the following Microsoft Web site:
    2. Follow the installation instructions for the version of the .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package that is appropriate for the type of computer that you are using.
