How to determine if Windows SharePoint Services is installed on the Web server
To determine if Windows SharePoint Services is installed on the
Web server, follow these steps.
Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry
Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
- Click Start, click Run,
type regedit in the Open box, and then
click OK.
- Locate and then click the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\6.0
- In the right pane, look to see if a SharePoint registry
entry that has a value of Installed is listed. If the SharePoint registry entry
that has a value of Installed is listed, Windows SharePoint Services is
installed on the computer.
- Quit Registry Editor.
How to determine if Windows SharePoint Services or if FrontPage Server Extensions is in use
To determine if Windows SharePoint Services or if FrontPage Server
Extensions is in use, look to see if the following registry key contains any
subkeys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\Ports
To do this, follow these steps.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\Ports
- Look to see if the
Ports
registry key contains any
subkeys. If subkeys are present, either Windows SharePoint Services or
FrontPage Server Extensions is installed on that virtual server.
For
example, if the Default Web Site in IIS is extended with Windows SharePoint
Services or with FrontPage Server Extensions, the
Ports
registry key
contains the following subkey: - Quit Registry Editor.
