Proxy server settings are not set correctly in Internet Explorer after you download a proxy script that uses chunk encoding

You are using a proxy script to determine the proxy server settings for a connection in Windows Internet Explorer 7, in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 2 (SP2), or in Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (SP1). However, after the proxy script is downloaded from the server, the proxy server settings in Internet Explorer are not set correctly. You may have to manually configure the proxy server settings.

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

• The proxy script is split in two frames by using chunk encoding.
• The second frame only has the endmarker of the chunk.

In this scenario, Internet Explorer incorrectly processes the script.

To resolve this issue, install security update 942615 for Internet Explorer. If you are running Internet Explorer 6 SP2 or Internet Explorer 6 SP1, you must enable the fix after you install the update. To do this, follow these steps.

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl
3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
4. Type FEATURE_FIX_CHUNKED_PROXY_SCRIPT_DOWNLOAD_KB843289, and then press ENTER.
5. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
6. In the Data value box, type 1, and then click OK.
7. On the File menu, click Exit to exit Registry Editor.
