Symptoms

When you configure the advanced settings of an online presentation broadcast by using the Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 Broadcast feature or by using the Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 Online Broadcast feature, if you type the name or the Internet Protocol (IP) address of a server that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 in the Use this local Windows Media Server on this LAN box and then click OK, you receive the following message:
PowerPoint was unable to locate the Windows Media Server at Server_Name or IP_Address. Please ensure that the location is correct.
If you use the Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 Online Broadcast feature, and you type the name or the IP address of a server that is running Windows Server 2003 in the Use a local NetShow server on this LAN box, you receive the following message when you click OK and then click Broadcast Schedule in the Schedule a New Broadcast window:
'Server_Name or IP_Address' is not a valid server. Please check to see that the server name is correct and the server is online.

Cause

This behavior occurs because Windows Server 2003 does not support the Microsoft PowerPoint Online Broadcast feature. To use Microsoft Windows Media Services, the Microsoft PowerPoint Online Broadcast feature requires a server-side component that is not included in Windows Server 2003. The server-side component that is required is the On-line Presentation Broadcast service.

Workaround

To work around this behavior so that you can use a Microsoft PowerPoint online presentation broadcast in a multicast scenario, you must specify a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 2000 Server as the Windows Media Server.
