This article describes the Microsoft Excel 2002 issues that are fixed in the Excel 2002 post-Service Pack 3 hotfix package that is dated May 6, 2004. Additionally, this hotfix package includes an update to Microsoft Graph 2002.

Issues that are fixed in the hotfix package

The following issues are fixed in this hotfix package, but were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • When you click a hyperlink in an embedded Microsoft Excel workbook, Excel generates the following error message and does not select the range that is indicated by the hyperlink:
    An Unexpected Error Has Occurred
This issue occurs when you embed either a new or an existing Excel workbook. The issue does not occur when you link to an existing workbook.

  • If you run a custom Excel 2002 program in a Terminal Services session by using a batch file and then lock your computer, you may receive the following error message when you unlock your computer and your program may stop responding:
Not enough system resources to display completely.
  • When you try to save changes to your Excel 2002 workbook, you may receive a sharing violation error message. If you click to either lose all changes or you click to save the workbook with a different file name, the temporary AutoRecover file is not deleted from the \tmp folder.
  • When you click Show All in a workbook that has an AutoFilter applied, Excel may quit unexpectedly and you receive the following error message:
Microsoft Excel has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If you view the details of the error message, you receive an error signature that is similar to the following:
    AppName AppVer ModName ModVer Offset
    --------------------------------------------------------
    Excel.exe 10.0.5815.0 Excel.exe 10.0.5815.0 001918bb

  • When you run a custom program that opens a workbook that is created from a template that has a long file name (for example, a file name that contains 51 or more characters), you receive the following error message:
    Error 1004.The operation failed.
