The Snaprint.exe program quits when you stop or start 5250 print sessions

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

When you (if you are an administrator of Microsoft Host Integration Server 2000) use SNA Manager to stop and to start 5250 print sessions, the SNA Host Print service, Snaprint.exe, may quit unexpectedly.

Additionally, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
snaprint.exe - Application Error

The instruction at memory address referenced memory at memory address. The memory could not be "read".

Click OK to terminate the program.
If the Drwtsn32.exe program is configured as the default debugger, the Drwtsn32.log file may be updated with an entry that details an access violation in the Snaprint.exe program. The details of the access violation may vary because of the nature of the access violation.

Cause

Sometimes, the SNA Host Print service must reallocate the buffer that is used to store the DEVMODE structure of a print session. The memory pointer for the new buffer is not passed to the print manager when 5250 print sessions are used. The failure to pass the correct memory pointer leads to the following conditions:
  • An incorrect parameter is passed on subsequent Graphics Device Interface calls.
  • The wrong memory buffer is freed when a 5250 print session is stopped.
These conditions lead to various access violations and an abnormal termination of the SNA Host Print service when you stop and restart 5250 print sessions.
