FIX: Outlook Express Cannot Open a Message That Is Encrypted by BizTalk Server 2002

Symptoms

When you try to use Microsoft Outlook Express to open a message that was encrypted with Microsoft BizTalk Server, you may receive one of the following messages from Outlook Express:

Message could not be displayed Outlook Express encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again.

Error Decrypting Message
You cannot read the message.

This might be because: You may have lost or deleted the Digital ID that the message is encrypted to. You may have installed the Digital ID that the message is encrypted to on another computer. The sender may have meant the message for somebody else. You do not have the necessary security package installed on this computer.

Resolution

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, submit a request to Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.
