Symptoms

When you try to apply Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) for SharePoint Team Services to a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer that is running SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft, you may receive the following error message:
Error 1931.
Setup cannot update file \system drive\Program files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\50\bin\CFGWIZ.EXE because it is protected by Windows. You may need to update your operating system for this program to work correctly.

Cause

This problem may occur if you try to install Office XP SP3 for SharePoint Team Services on a Windows Server 2003-based computer.

Workaround

To work around this problem, download Office XP SP3 for SharePoint Team Services and install it during the download process. Do not download Office XP SP3 for SharePoint Team Services and then try to install it manually after you download it.
