You cannot import files by using the File System option in the Import Web Site Wizard in FrontPage 2003

Symptoms

When you try to create a new Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 Web site by using the Import Web Site Wizard, you receive the following error message:
You are unable to import a Web site from \\servername\sharename. Verify the location and then try again.
You expect the File Import dialog box to appear with the files from the remote folder location automatically added.

Cause

This problem occurs if both of the following conditions exist:
  • You click File System under How do you want to get the files in the Import Web Site Wizard.

  • You specify a Web site location that is not a Web site.

Workaround

To work around this problem, import the files from the remote folder to your Web site by using the Import command on the File menu. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. In the Import Web Site Wizard, click Cancel.
  2. On the File menu, click Import.
  3. Click Add Folder, type the remote folder location in the Folder name box, and then click Open.

    The files from the remote folder appear in the Import dialog box.
  4. If you are finished adding files or folders, click OK.
