Cause

This problem may occur if you have installed the update for Microsoft Internet Explorer that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 813489 and you are trying to view a disk-based Web page. The 813489 update introduced a new feature that does not allow zone navigation in Internet Explorer. This feature was introduced in the Mshtml.exe file, and that file is used by Preview in FrontPage. If the Web page you are viewing is a disk-based Web, you cannot use Preview in FrontPage to move from one Web page to another. As a result, a hyperlink in a disk-based Web that points to any other page in the disk-based Web will not work correctly.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, add FrontPage to the list of Internet Explorer compatible programs. To do this, follow these steps:

Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Locate the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Application Compatibility
  3. Right-click Application Compatibility, click New, and then click DWORD Value.
  4. Type Frontpg.exe, and then click OK to name the DWORD value.
  5. Double-click Frontpg.exe.
