HOW TO: Install SharePoint Team Services 1.0 on a Windows Server 2003-Based Computer

Summary

This article describes how to install Microsoft SharePoint Team Services 1.0 on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer.

Before you install Microsoft SharePoint Team Services on a Windows Server 2003-based computer, you must first install and configure Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0. This article contains information about how to install and configure IIS 6.0 so that you can install and run SharePoint Team Services in Windows Server 2003.

Note SharePoint Team Services is not supported on any 64-bit edition of Windows Server 2003.

Install Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (also known as MSDE 2000)

You must install either SQL Server 2000 or MSDE 2000 on the computer before you install SharePoint Team Services.

Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 and MSDE 1.0 are not supported in Windows Server 2003.

Microsoft recommends that you obtain and install the latest service packs that are available for SQL Server 2000 and MSDE 2000. For more information about how to obtain the latest service packs for SQL Server 2000 and MSDE 2000, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

Install Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 and Indexing Service

You must install IIS 6.0 and Indexing Service on the computer before you install SharePoint Team Services. By default, IIS 6.0 is not installed when you install Windows Server 2003. To install IIS 6.0 and the Indexing Service:
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Click Add or Remove Programs, and then click Add/Remove Windows Components.
  3. Click Application Server (but do not clear the check box), click to select the Internet Information Services (IIS) check box, and then click OK.
  4. Click to select the Indexing Service check box, and then click Next.
  5. Click Finish.

Configure IIS to Use IIS 5.0 Isolation Mode

To configure IIS 6.0 to user IIS 5.0 isolation mode:
  1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Information Services Manager.
  2. Expand ServerName, where ServerName is the name of the server, right-click Web Sites, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Service tab.
  4. Under Isolation mode, click to select the Run WWW Service in IIS 5.0 isolation mode check box, and then click OK.
  5. Quit Internet Information Services Manager.

Turn on (Enable) the Indexing Service Web Extension

You must turn on the Indexing Service Web extension in IIS before you can use the Indexing Service with IIS. After you do so, you can configure indexing for Web content so that users can perform searches on that content. To turn on the Indexing Service Web extension:
  1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Information Services Manager.
  2. Expand ServerName, where ServerName is the name of the server, and then click Web Service Extensions .
  3. In the right pane, right-click Indexing Service, and then click Allow.
  4. Quit Internet Information Services Manager.

Add the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) of the Server to the Local Intranet Zone in Internet Explorer

By default, the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration feature is turned on in Microsoft Internet Explorer in Windows Server 2003, and the Internet zone is set to use High security and the Trusted zone is set to use Medium security.

To access the SharePoint Team Services administration pages and the SharePoint Team Services home page (after SharePoint Team Services is installed on the computer), you must add the URL of the server to the Local Intranet Zone. To do so:
  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  3. Click the Security tab.
  4. Click Local intranet, click Sites, and then click Advanced.
  5. In the Add this Web site to the zone box, type the URL of the server (for example, type http://ServerName), and then click OK.
  6. Click OK two times.

Install SharePoint Team Services

After you complete the previous procedures in this article, install SharePoint Team Services. To install SharePoint Team Services from the Microsoft Office XP or Microsoft FrontPage 2002 CD:
  1. Insert the Office XP CD in your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. Press and hold down the SHIFT key as you insert the CD to prevent it from starting automatically.
  2. Locate the Sharept folder in the root folder of the CD, and then double-click Setupse.exe.
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen to install SharePoint Team Services.
