XADM: A User Cannot Set Another User as a Delegate in Outlook

Symptoms

When you add a new account (or a group with an account) to a disabled user for whom:
  • The associated external mailbox account is set to Self in the Microsoft Active Directory directory service.

    -and-
  • Full mailbox rights exist.
and the new user logs onto the mailbox of the disabled user, the new user cannot set another user as a delegate in Outlook.

Cause

This problem occurs because in the situation that is described in the "Symptoms" section, the Public Delegate attribute in Active Directory is not updated with the added user.

Workaround

To work around this problem, give Active Directory permissions to the user account that the new user will use to log on. To do this:
  1. Open Active Directory Users and Computers, and then on the View menu, click Advanced Features (if it is not already selected).
  2. Expand Your_Server, and then click Users.
  3. In the right pane, right-click User A, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Security tab, click Add, select the user, and then click OK.
  5. Make sure the Write permissions check box is selected, and then click OK.
