Changing the Storage Group default path location

To change the default Storage Group path location can be made using Adsiedit.msc tool.
Note: These steps require the Adsiedit.msc tool. The Adsiedit.msc tool is included when you install Windows Server 2003 Support Tools. If you have Windows Server 2008 Adsiedit.msc tool is already installed.

The following steps are required in order to change the Storage Group default path location in Exchange Server 2007:

  1. Open Adsiedit.msc tool
  2. Expand Configuration partition
  3. Expand Services
  4. Expand CN=Microsoft Exchange
  5. Expand CN=<Exchange organization name>
  6. Expand CN=Administrative Groups
  7. Expand CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)
  8. Expand CN=Servers
  9. Right-click on CN=<Mailbox Server Name> and click on Properties
  10. Locate the attribute msExchDataPathand click on Edit button a
  11. Change the default path to the new default path. This path will be used for all new Storage Groups

To validate the new settings the attribute�changes must be replicated among the local Domain Controllers that are being in use by Exchange Server Mailbox.

  1. Open Exchange Management Console
  2. Expand Server Configuration
  3. Click on Mailbox (Note: the server selected must be the same that you modified in the Adsiedit.msc)
  4. In the Toolbox Actions, click on New Storage Group�
  5. Type in the Storage Group name into Storage Group Name field and hit Tab
  6. The fields Log File path and System file path will be filled out automatically with the new path location.
