Improvements and fixes

This security update includes quality improvements. Key changes include:

  • Addresses an issue with evaluating the compatibility status of the Windows ecosystem to help ensure application and device compatibility for all updates to Windows. 
  • Changes the default behavior in ASP.NET for the SameSite cookie header to align with changes other industry partners are making. For more information, see Work with SameSite cookies in ASP.NET.
  • Security updates to Windows Virtualization, Windows Kernel, Windows Peripherals, the Microsoft Scripting Engine, and Windows Server.

If you installed earlier updates, only the new fixes contained in this package will be downloaded and installed on your device.

Symptom Workaround
After installing this update, you might encounter issues with applications that use embedded HTML and SameSite cookies across sites or iframes. To align with industry partners, the default behavior of the SameSite cookie header in ASP.NET has been changed. To mitigate this issue, see Work with SameSite cookies in ASP.NET.
