XCCC: Outlook Web Access Stops Responding After You Log On

Symptoms

When you log on after you type your user name and password, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:
  • Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) may stop responding (hang).
  • Your Web browser program may stop responding (hang).
  • You may receive the following event or one that is similar to it in the System Log:
    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: MSExchangeSA
    Event Category: (14)
    Event ID: 9175
    Date: date
    Time: time
    User: N/A
    Computer: EXCHANGE
    Description:
    The MAPI call 'OpenMsgStore' failed with the following error: The Microsoft Exchange Server computer is not available. Either there are network problems or the Microsoft Exchange Server computer is down for maintenance.
    The MAPI provider failed. Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store ID no: 8004011d-0526-00000000

Cause

This issue may occur if the System Attendant and the Information Store services are not using the local system account. This may occur after you upgrade from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000 Server with the Back Office version of Exchange.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, set the Exchange System Attendant and the Exchange Information Store services to use the local system account on the Exchange 2000 Server-based computer:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
  2. Right-click Microsoft Exchange System Attendant, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Logon tab, click to select the Local System Account check box, click to clear the Allow this service to interact with the desktop check box, and then click OK.
  4. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
  5. Right-click Microsoft Exchange Information Store, and then click Properties.
  6. Click the Logon tab, click to select the Local System Account check box, click to clear the Allow this service to interact with the desktop check box, and then click OK.
