To troubleshoot problems with the Wireless Wheel Mouse PS/2, use the methods below in the order in which they are presented.
NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
Method 1: Verify System Requirements
Verify that your computer meets the system requirements.
Method 2: Verify IntelliPoint Version
Verify that you are running IntelliPoint 4.01 or later. To determine which version you are running, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Search, and then click All Files and Folders.
- In the All or part of the file name box, type msmouse.vxd.
- In the Look in box, click My Computer, and then click Search.
- In the Search Results window, right-click Msmouse.vxd, and then click Properties.
- Click the Version tab, note the version of the Msmouse.vxd file, and then click OK.
If the version of Msmouse.vxd is earlier than 11.40.657, download and install IntelliPoint 4.01. To do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
Method 3: Select a Slower Pointer Speed
If you are experiencing performance issues such as jerky mouse cursor movement, select a slower pointer speed. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
- If you are in Classic view, click Switch to Category View under Control Panel in the left pane.
- Click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Mouse.
- Click the Pointer Options tab, and in the Motion box, drag the slider to a slower pointer speed.
Method 4: Switch to a Different Channel
- Press the mouse button on the top of the base unit.
- Press the Connect Channel button on the bottom of the mouse.
- Test the mouse.
If this does not resolve the issue, repeat the procedure one time before
going to the next method.
Method 5: Check the Desktop Environment
Items such as desktop fans, metal furniture, cell phones, cordless phones,
wireless computer networks, and fluorescent lights can interfere
with the signal from the mouse.
Test the mouse in a different physical location.
Method 6: Verify Battery Installation
Verify that the batteries are installed correctly. The batteries must be aligned correctly, with the + (positive) and - (negative) polarity symbols aligned as labeled on your mouse.
Method 7: Change the Batteries
If the issue continues to occur, install a fresh set of batteries, and then test again.
Other Solutions
The Wireless Wheel Mouse may not work with third-party equipment, such as adapters and extension cables. Verify that the receiver is directly attached to a PS/2 mouse port.
