Workaround

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Do Not Include More Than 32,767 Rows

This problem has been known to occur when there are more than 32,767 rows in the pivot table. To avoid this problem, create your pivot table so it does not contain more than 32,767 rows.

Method 2: Rearrange the Pivot Table

Move a field to a different location in the pivot table. To do this, select a field, and then drag it to a different location (for example, drag the second field to appear before the first field). After you move the field to the new location, Excel will calculate the pivot table. After the calculation has been completed, the pivot table fields will function correctly.

To restore the pivot table to its original format, move the field back to its original location. Excel will again calculate the pivot table.

Note If you save the changes and then reopen the Excel file, Excel will repair the file again, and then the pivot table fields will not function.
