FIX: Error message occurs in Outlook after you change a single instance of a recurring meeting by using an iOS device

Symptoms

In a Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 environment, you have a single instance of a recurring meeting that is changed and updated by an iOS device. When you try to open the instance by using Microsoft Outlook, the meeting is not opened and you receive the following error message:

Sorry, we're having trouble opening this item. This could be temporary, but if you see it again you might want to restart Outlook. You changed one of the recurrences of this item, and this instance no longer exists. Close any open items and try again.

Cause

This issue occurs because the iOS client corrupts the TimeZone field of the occurrence when it changes the meeting. Therefore, Outlook cannot open the occurrance.

Resolution

To fix this issue, install Cumulative Update 11 for Exchange Server 2013.
