Symptoms

When you modify the fill colors of a Microsoft Excel 2000 chart that is embedded in Microsoft PowerPoint 2000, you may lose the customizations when you edit the chart in-place.

Cause

This problem occurs because, by default, PowerPoint 2000 applies its slide color scheme to embedded Excel 2000 charts.

Resolution

The Recolor Excel Chart setting controls the way that PowerPoint 2000 applies slide color schemes to embedded Excel 2000 charts. To prevent the loss of custom colors, follow these steps:
1.Click once to select the chart that you want to customize. Make sure that the chart is not active for editing.
2.Right-click the chart, and then click Show Picture Toolbar on the shortcut menu.
3.On the Picture toolbar, click the Recolor Excel Chart button.
4.In the Recolor Excel Chart dialog box, click None.
You can now double-click the chart for editing without losing the custom colors.
