Symptoms

When you publish or work in a FrontPage Web, the following error message appears:
Server Error: There is no page with the URL path/filename.htm in this Web.
where path/filename.htm is the path and name of a file that is no longer in your Web.

The Application Event log, which is stored on the server, may contain the following additional information:
http://Website - Error #90005 Message: path/filename.htm does not refer to a page or folder in this Web. It may be a page or folder in a subweb, or it could be a badly formed URL.

Cause

This problem can occur if you remove a file from the Web, but the meta information for the file is still stored in the _vti_cnf folder. The _vti_cnf folder stores information about the files in your Web. FrontPage uses this information to list files in your Web, list files to be published, and generate reports.

This is most likely to occur if you move or delete a file from the Web by using Windows Explorer. When you use Windows Explorer rather than FrontPage to move or delete a file, information stored in the _vti_cnf folder is not updated to reflect the change. This results in the error message described in the "Symptoms" section of this article.

Resolution

To correct this problem, remove the information for the file from the _vti_cnf folder. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the FrontPage Server Extensions Web server, right-click the Start menu, and then click Explore to start Windows Explorer.
  2. Select the Show all files option by doing one of the following:
    • Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server:
      1. On the View menu, click Folder Options, and then click the Views tab.
      2. Click to select the Show all files check box and then click OK.
    • Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows XP:
      1. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the Views tab.
      2. Click to select the Show all files check box and then click OK.
  3. In Windows Explorer, follow these steps:
    1. Open the _vti_cnf folder in the folder containing the Web with which you are having a problem.
    2. Select the file listed in the error message described in the "Symptoms" section of this article and press DELETE.
    3. If you are prompted to confirm if you want to send the file to the Recycle Bin, click Yes.
  4. In FrontPage, open the Web site. To do this, click Open Web on the File menu. In the Open Web dialog box, select your Web site, and then click Open.
  5. On the Tools menu, click Recalculate Hyperlinks.

More information

You can prevent this problem by deleting the page from within FrontPage. When you do this, the file is removed from the hard disk or the Web site and the information in the _vti_cnf folder of the current Web is updated to reflect this. To do this, open your Web in FrontPage, switch to Folders view, select the page you want to remove, and then press DELETE.
