Microsoft Exchange Health Manager service stops unexpectedly on Exchange Server 2013 Edge Transport server

Symptoms

When you try to restart the service on an Edge Transport server that has Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 Cumulative Update 6 installed, the restart operation fails, and you receive the following error message:

Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.

Additionally, an event ID 7003 entry that resembles the following is logged in the System log:

This is a code issue.

Resolution

Important
Follow the steps in this section carefully. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Before you modify it, back up the registry for restoration in case problems occur.


To work around this issue, follow these steps: 
  1. On the Edge Transport server, open Registry Editor.
  2. Locate and then select the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\MSExchangeHM
  3. Double-click the DependOnService registry entry, and then removeMSExchangeADTopology in the Value data box.
  4. Restart the server.
