XL2002: Unable to Record Macro and No VBA Projects Shown After You Install Office 2000

Symptoms

When you attempt to record a new macro, you receive the following error message:
Unable to record.
In addition, when you start the Visual Basic Editor (VBE), no projects are available to view, even though one or more workbooks are open.

Cause

This behavior occurs when you install Microsoft Office XP and then you install Microsoft Office 2000.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, run Detect and Repair for Microsoft Office XP. To do this, use either of the following methods.

Method 1: Use the Detect and Repair Command

  1. Start Excel.
  2. On the Help menu, click Detect and Repair
  3. Click Start.

Method 2: Use Add/Remove Programs

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
  3. In the Currently installed programs list, click Microsoft Office XP or Microsoft Excel 2002, and then click Change.
  4. Click Repair Office, and then click Next.
  5. Click Detect and Repair errors in my Office installation, and then click Install.
  6. When Office XP Setup is complete, click OK.
  7. In the Add/Remove Programs dialog box, click Close.
