The XMLHttpRequest object cannot post data when a new HTTPS connection is established that requires a client certificate in Internet Explorer

Symptoms

You use the URLMON module in Internet Explorer 9 or in Internet Explorer 10 to establish a new HTTPS connection. If the connection requires a client certificate, the XMLHttpRequest object (a JavaScript object) cannot post data.

Resolution

Update information

To resolve this issue, install the most recent cumulative security update for Internet Explorer.

To install this update, go to Microsoft Update. To enable this update, see the "Registry information" section.

Registry information

After you apply this update, you must change the registry. To do this, follow these steps.

For 32-bit (x86-based) computers
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Expand the following subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl

  3. Right-click FeatureControl, point to New, and then click Key.
  4. Type FEATURE_SHOW_CERT_WARNINGS_ON_POST_FROM_ISTREAM_KB2894776, and then press Enter to name the new subkey.
  5. Right-click FEATURE_SHOW_CERT_WARNINGS_ON_POST_FROM_ISTREAM_KB2894776, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  6. Type iexplore.exe, and then press Enter to name the new entry.
  7. Right-click iexplore.exe, and then click Modify.
  8. In the Value data box, type 00000001, and then click OK.
  9. Exit Registry Editor. 

For 64-bit (x64-based) computers
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Expand the following subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl

  3. Right-click FeatureControl, point to New, and then click Key.
  4. Type FEATURE_SHOW_CERT_WARNINGS_ON_POST_FROM_ISTREAM_KB2894776, and then press Enter to name the new subkey.
  5. Right-click FEATURE_SHOW_CERT_WARNINGS_ON_POST_FROM_ISTREAM_KB2894776, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  6. Type iexplore.exe, and then press Enter to name the new entry.
  7. Right-click iexplore.exe, and then click Modify.
  8. In the Value data box, type 00000001, and then click OK.
  9. Expand the following subkey:

  13. Type iexplore.exe, and then press Enter to name the new entry.
  14. Right-click iexplore.exe, and then click Modify.
  15. In the Value data box, type 00000001, and then click OK.
  16. Exit Registry Editor.
