Symptoms

In Microsoft Excel, when you use dictation to insert values in cells, the numbers 1 through 10 are inserted as text rather than as numerals as expected.

Cause

This behavior occurs because these integer numbers are recognized as text items by default.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, use the ForceNum voice command to make Excel insert 1 through 10 as numerals instead of as words in text format. To do so, follow these steps:
  1. On the Language bar, click Microphone to turn the microphone on.
  2. Click Dictation.
  3. Say "ForceNum three."

Notice that the numeral "3" appears in the active cell.
