Symptoms

In Microsoft Excel, when you attempt to preview a worksheet as a Web page, nothing happens, and there is no message informing you what may be wrong.

Cause

This behavior may occur when an Excel worksheet is protected with a password, and you then click Web Page Preview on the File menu. Worksheets protected with a password cannot be changed in any way, so they cannot be converted to Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML). Web pages are coded in HTML, and so the conversion to HTML and display of the worksheet as a Web page fails.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, unprotect the password protected Excel worksheet that you want to view as a Web page.

To unprotect a password protected Excel worksheet, follow these steps:
1.On the Tools menu, point to Protection, and then click Unprotect Sheet.
2.Type the Unprotect Sheet password and then click OK.
TIPS
You can now save the worksheet with a different name and then once again protect the original worksheet.
You can protect a worksheet without using a password and you can then preview a protected worksheet as a Web page.
