Symptoms

In Microsoft Excel, some of your toolbar and menu items may be missing, moved, or perform different actions than you expect, as in the following examples:
The Security command may be missing from the Macro submenu on the Tools menu.
The AutoCorrect Options command may be in the wrong place on the Tools menu, and when you select AutoCorrect Options, the Search task pane is displayed instead of the AutoCorrect Options dialog box.
The Speech command may be missing from the Tools menu.

Cause

This behavior can occur when you open a custom Excel menu (.XLB) file from an earlier version of Excel in the current version of Excel. The standard menu from the earlier version of Excel replaces the current menu, and some of the commands that were not part of the earlier version of Excel's menu are not displayed, or the displayed commands do not function properly.

Resolution

To return the missing items to the menu or toolbar, and restore unavailable commands, follow these steps:
1.On the View menu, point to Toolbars, and then click Customize.
2.On the Toolbars tab, click Worksheet Menu Bar, click Reset, and then click OK.
3.Click Close.
These steps reset the toolbars to the default settings, and remove all customization.

More information

Toolbar settings are not migrated automatically when you upgrade from an earlier version of Excel. For more information about custom toolbars, click Microsoft Excel Help on the Help menu, type xlb in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click Search to view the topic.
