Symptoms

In Microsoft Excel, when you type the name of a person to whom you recently sent e-mail, the Recent Outlook e-mail recipient smart tag does not recognize the name, even though smart tags are enabled and the Recent Outlook e-mail recipient check box is selected.

NOTE: To view your smart tags settings, click AutoCorrect Options on the Tools menu, and then click the Smart Tags tab.

Cause

This behavior occurs because the Recent Outlook e-mail recipient smart tag has not loaded the most recent list of names from the Microsoft Outlook name cache.

Resolution

To work around this behavior, follow these steps:
  1. Close Microsoft Outlook, to have Outlook save the most recent name cache.
  2. Close Microsoft Excel.
  3. Open Microsoft Excel.

Excel reloads the Recent Outlook e-mail recipient smart tag, and uses the most recent name cache that Outlook saved.
  4. Type the full name of a person to whom you sent e-mail during your most recent Outlook session.
  5. Press ENTER and wait a few moments for recognition to occur.
