Packaging error when using App-V 5.0 to sequence applications with RELS files

Symptoms

If an application contains an OPC "relationship part" (.rels) file, the Microsoft App-V 5.0 sequencer fails to package the application. When the failure occurs you receive the following error message:

An error was encountered while trying to finalize the package. Please check the event log for more details.

You can identify a relationship part by the presence of a file with a ".rels" file extension in a folder named "_rels". For more information, refer to the Open Package Conventions (OPC) specification.

Cause

This is a known limitation in App-V 5.0.

Resolution

To work around the limitation, manually delete all relationship files from the package source folder prior to saving the package. Delete the file(s) when reaching the Create Package page in the new package wizard, just prior to clicking the Create button.
