You can't activate Office 2011 for Mac to use with Office 365 in Japan

Problem

After you install Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 and try to activate it to use with Office 365 in Japan, you can't complete the process. Although you're prompted to enter a product key,�the�Sign in to an existing Office 365 subscription option isn't available.

Solution

To work around this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Exit all Office for Mac 2011 programs.
  2. Change the time zone to something other than Japan Standard Time. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. In System Preferences, open Date & Time.
    2. Click the Time Zone tab, and then, in the�Closest City box, enter a city that's not in Japan.
  3. Start any Office for Mac 2011 program. You'll see that the Sign in to an existing Office 365 subscription option is now available.
  4. Sign in to Office 365, and then activate Office for Mac 2011.
  5. Change the time zone setting back to Japan Standard Time.
